gorgeous results with this craft designed by Diane Hutton, a wonderful FLES teacher in my district!
for fourth and fifth graders
materials needed : collection of own ornaments --
animals and a poinsettia, plus tooling foil, Sharpie pens, scissors
procedure:

show own collection of authentic (and inexpensive) tin ornaments to class

pass out pieces of tooling foil the size of a typical ornament, rounding all edges to avoid cuts
children choose an ornament to trace, going over the interior outlines as well
children then trim around the exterior outline; teacher rounds edges
children color them with different colors of permanent Sharpie markers
(letting them dry for a minute or so to avoid smudges)
hole punched in the upper part
children choose a piece of colorful yarn to thread through the hole
