BBC "TALK SPANISH" & SUEÑOS
These two contemporary series from the BBC have much potential for teaching adult beginners of Spanish. The section on introducing family members would be interesting even to children."Talk Spanish" is for beginners with absolutely no knowledge of Spanish; Sueños is the next level. There are videos, listening tapes, exercises, quizzes, essential word and phrase lists, and culture tidbits. The BBC also offers the same approach in French, German, Chinese, Portuguese, Greek, and Italian.
LOGOS ONLINE MULTILINGUAL DICTIONARY
This online dictionary from Italy is the most technologically advanced translation dictionary I have encountered. Enter a word (or just the beginning or ending) and receive a translation in chosen language, plus access to a written passage for context, a picture of the word, and an audio clip with the word in context. A plethora of languages is available for access.
FONETIKS
With this online language laboratory, listen to the proper pronunciation of vowels and consonants, as well as some phrases. Castillian and some Argentine Spanish are available along with French, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, Thai, Indonesian and different varieties of English.
THE LANGMEDIA COLLECTION
Its goal is to provide examples of authentic language spoken in its natural cultural environment so that students of all ages
can better understand the interplay between a language and its culture. International students shot most of the video in their home countries using handheld camcorders and microphones provided by the Center. The video and audio quality varies, remaining true to the language subjects actually uttered. Therefore, students should be aware that there are grammatical errors, and that the videos sometimes show highly colloquial language, local slang, and regional specific speech patterns. At times, the preferred or more proper forms appear in parentheses. Most of the transcripts and translations were prepared by the same students who filmed the video, although in some cases the transcripts have also been edited by a language expert.
