Note: Extra two stickers are members of La familia Manzana that I use to teach this
vocabulary in the early months. Delete and replace if desired. See Family Matters for
more information.
jumbo paper clips (I like to use colored ones as the children can ask for particular color they wish with “please” and “thank you,” too.
Procedure for Teaching:
Teacher reviews simple greetings and departures with individuals and entire class.
Children help teach pass out only decorative vocabulary strips.
Children locate red dots, sun, water, and Aztec temple.
Children find sun that is up and down.
Children help teacher pass out materials, except paper clips and rings.
Children cut all strips apart vertically at all red dots.
While class cuts out, students come to teacher and ask for two paper clips in one or two colors.
Children clip strips together.
Children cut apart stickers without removing them from backing. Students keep them

together with paper clips.
Children spread Spanish flashcards and stickers in front of them
Teacher indicates which one to find and attach label on the back.
Students keep finished flashcards in pile with paper clip.
Teacher collects folders with piles of finished flashcards.
Teacher punches piles together outside of class.
Students put flashcards together in logical order as in original tira.
Children help teacher pass out rings.
Students attach cards to rings.
Student practices flashcards with teacher.
Students practice flashcards with each other.
Assessment: Teacher circulates in class and asks students to read phrases from
flashcards while students color lettering in English.
Optional Extension for High-Achievers: Students can create other flashcards
with different phrases on same size oaktag. Students can create mini-dialogues in pairs
Home & School Connection: Students will teach one or more family members
the Spanish phrases.
