Children respond by drawing new animal [or self] in extra wheel window.
Assessment: As children finish, teacher asks individuals to perform song for her in front of class with one animal, using lyric wheel. Teacher observes class and individual students perform song with TPR movements and then manipulating lyric wheel. Students take turns naming animals in song.
Optional Extension for High-Achievers: Using other animal pictures and posters, ask children to draw an additional animal on the wheel. On the back of the wheel, children can also draw a picture of all the animals taking shelter. Children can label all animals there and add even more animals of their own choosing, matching the number of syllables in each animal noun.
Home & School Connection: Students will (1) sing the song, (2) move the wheel as the song is sung, (3) name all the animals in the song, (4) name the extra animal added to the song, and/or (5) sing the song while reading the lyrics.
