I usually use (1) "Insert Symbol" command or (2) hold down the Control key, tap the apostrophe key,

and then tap the vowel I wish accented or (3) hold down the Control key and tap

the question mark or exclamation point key or (4) hold down Control and Shift keys and tap

tilde key for ñ (have Caps Lock on for upper case Ñ)

note: I now find it much easier to use the excellent software "Foreign Characters © version 5.75"
